Licorice Roots

The Glycyrrhetinin acid present in the licorice roots has great anti inflammatory and anti viral properties. Regular usage of these roots not only reduces the inflammation of liver cells, but also makes the HCV less ferocious, thereby slowing down its degenerative activity.

Eclipta Alba / Bhringraj

Bhringraj or Eclipta alba is the herb that has been used in traditional Indian ayurvedic medicines since ancient times. This herb possesses several medicinal qualities, and one of them is its ability to induce cell regeneration.

This herb can be given to hepatitis C patients to induce regeneration of the cells that have been damaged by hepatitis C virus or HCV, thereby, initiating their healing process.

Milk Thistle

Milk thistle is known to be one of the most effective herbs against hepatitis C. This herb is not used to provide complete treatment for hepatitis C, but to minimize the level of damage caused by HCV.

The scientific name of this herb is Silybum marianum, which is a native of Europe, but is grown in many parts of US. The main ingredient of this plant is Silymarine, found in its fruits, which is responsible for most of its medicinal properties.

Silymarine promotes the growth of hepatocytes, the most active cells present in liver, thus, helping in regeneration of the liver tissues. Silymarine acts as an anti-oxidant agent to prevent oxidation of liver cells, and protects them from damage.

Acupuncture To Treat Hepatitis C

Abstract

1. Introduction

Approximately, 71 million people are infected with hepatitis C virus worldwide . Pakistan in the South Asian region has a high burden of active HCV infection . The new directacting antiviral agents have changed HCV treatment landscape leading to cure rates of over 90% . Furthermore, the pan-genotypic DAAs have shown promising results in complicated patients and have reduced the pill burden . Nevertheless, during the last few years, an increasing number of reports suggest the availability of complementary and alternative medicines as a natural remedy in the use of HCV treatment . However, user and CAM provider perspectives in the use of CAM in the treatment of HCV have not been explored before. The term CAM is used collectively for all those remedies that are not included in the western allopathic system . National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine defines CAM as a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine . CAM uses natural health products such as vitamins, homeopathic remedies, herbal medicines, spiritual healing, chiropractic remedies, and prayers .

  • Herbal therapies have been studied and shown to provide benefits to liver functions, such as the use of turmeric, Guduchi , Musta , Bhringaraj , Haritaki , pippali , licorice etc. These herbs are believed to relieve symptoms of hepatitis due to their anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Yoga postures can be practiced for those who are strong enough to perform them. The yogic postures are believed to boost the immune system and strengthen the liver. Some of these asanas are: Vajraasana , Shalabhasana , Halasana , Padahastasana , Savasana etc.
  • Homeopathic treatments in hepatitis treatment have been studied by very few researchers, but nevertheless, a few remedies that a homeopath may prescribe in hepatitis treatment are as follows:
  • Lycopodium
  • Mercurius
  • Chelidonium
  • Acupuncture Chinese naturopaths may also suggest the use of acupuncture to treat hepatitis, which helps by boosting and strengthening the immune system. However, there has been some concern over the use of infected or non-sterile needles used during the acupuncture session.
  • Adapting some lifestyle changes can also go a long way in keeping yourself healthy and also protecting others. It would be best to avoid alcohol during and right after a hepatitis episode along with medications that can cause severe damage to the liver.
  • Screening Of A Kampo Library For Suppression Of Hepatitis B Virus Production

Hepatitis C Herbal Remedies, Treatments And Cures

To identify anti-HBV Kampos, the INM Kampo library, containing 42 Kampo extracts, was first checked for cell toxicity. HepAD38.7 cells were treated with Kampo extracts, and cell viability was evaluated after 9 days of Kampo treatment . Among the 42 extracts, 41 resulted in > 80% viability . Then, the extracts without cytotoxicity were screened for their anti-HBV activity. HBV production was induced by removing tetracycline, and simultaneously, the cells were treated with or without Kampo extracts to evaluate the anti-HBV activity. Four of the 41 extracts suppressed extracellular HBV production in HepAD38.7 cells by > 25% . Since the maoto extract suppressed HBV production the most , we focused on the maoto extract for further investigation.

    Clinical Trials With Snmc

Hepatitis C Treatment With Herbs I Cure for Hepatitis C Using Natural Herbs

Suzuki in 1983 published the results of a randomized, controlled, double-blind study with 133 chronic hepatitis patients who were given either SNMC or placebo for 4 weeks. Both ALT and AST levels were lower in the SNMC treated group when compared to the placebo group throughout the entire treatment period however, within 2 weeks of follow-up, there was no longer a statistical difference in aminotransferases between the 2 groups. Also, HCV RNA remained present throughout treatment in both groups. In addition, this study did not distinguish between patients with hepatitis B and hepatitis C. These findings suggest that SNMC results in a decline in aminotransferase levels in patients with chronic liver disease, but that it has no lasting benefit once therapy is stopped.

    Cyclophilin As An Anti

Cell culture-based screening for anti-HCV compounds identified cyclosporin A as a potential agent. CsA, produced by the fungus Tolypocladium inflatum Gams, is known for its immunosuppressive effects and organ transplant application. The responsible target for CsA anti-HCV activity was cyclophilin PB . CyPB is a cellular peptidyl prolyl cis-trans isomerase. It is mainly localized at the cytoplasmic site of the ER membrane, exactly like the NS5B polymerase of HCV. Furthermore, both components form complexes with HCVRNA. Specific knockdown experiments showed that CyPB stimulated the RNA binding activity performed by NS5B, and a lack of CyPB led to reduced replication, respectively. Since CsA disrupts the complex of CyPB and NS5B, as a consequence, HCV genome replication is less efficient. Due to its immunosuppressive activities, CsA is not suitable as an anti-HCV drug. However, NIM811, a derivative with only 1 amino acid substitution, completely lacks the immunosuppressive effect and even provides approximately 2-fold stronger binding affinity to CyPB. Clinical trials are now underway. The fact that the CsA treatment of patients with HCV recurrence after liver transplantation, who did not respond to HCV standard therapy, resulted in a decrease of HCVRNA below the detection level in 5 of 8 patients, gives hope for positive results of cyclosporins.

    Broad Spectrum Activity Against Hcv

Honokiol, a lignan isolated from leaves of Magnolia officiais, was shown to have multiple effects on HCV infection, strongly inhibiting HCV infection in both the J6/JFH1 reporter virus system and in a pseudo-particles system containing glycoprotein of three different HCV genotypes . The mechanism in which honokiol affects HCV entry was reported by Lan et al. . The treatment of cells with this natural compound suppressed the OCLN and SR-BI receptors involved in HCV infection. The authors also demonstrated that honokiol was able to inhibit HCV IRES-mediated translation. However, this antiviral action was observed only at the highest concentration treatment and no effect was detected at concentration lower than 20 M. Honokiol was also effective against HCV replication as observed against two SGR, the genotype 1b and genotype 2a .

Silymarin is a mixture of silybin A, silybin B, isosilybin A, isosilybin B, silychristin, isosilychristin, and silydianin extracted from Silybum marianum . This extract has shown recently to block virus entry, RNA and protein expression, virus production and cell to cell spread of virus . Additionally, this compound demonstrated a hepatoprotective effect on treated cells . One of the major components of silymarin is silibinin, a mixture of semi-purified silybin A and silybin B and commercially available.

Sometimes The Infection Goes Away On Its Own

Acute hepatitis is C is a short-term illness that occurs within the first six months after being exposed to the virus. Like the human papillomavirus , early acute hepatitis C can clear on its own without treatment this happens about 25% of the time.

However, it’s more likely that the virus will remain in your body longer than six months, at which point it’s considered to be chronic hepatitis C infection.

“Being younger or a woman tends to be a factor in whether the virus clears on its own, and genetics may play a role,” Reau says. “But we can’t determine with certainty which people are certain to clear the infection and which aren’t.”

Thats the scary thing about hepatitis C it often becomes a chronic condition before people even know they have it. Its also the leading cause of liver cancer, the most common reason for liver transplants in the U.S. and a common cause of cirrhosis. Plus, studies show that the prevalence of hepatitis C is on the rise.

A very recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that cases of hepatitis C virus infection in U.S. women in their reproductive years doubled from 2006 to 2014, rising from roughly 15,000 cases to 30,000. As a result, an estimated 1,700 infants were born with hepatitis C between 2011 and 2014.

So what are the causes of hepatitis C and how do you know if youre infected? Keep reading to answer these questions. If you think youre at risk of contracting the virus, make an appointment to get tested. The sooner your doctor diagnoses you, the higher your chances of fighting the virus, even with natural remedies that support your liver and help it to function properly.

What Is The Connection Between Hiv And Hbv

Both HIV and HBV spread from person to person in semen, blood, or other body fluids. For this reason, the main risk factors for HIV and HBV are the same: having sex without a condom and injection drug use.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , approximately 10% of people with HIV in the United States also have HBV. Infection with both HIV and HBV is called HIV/HBV coinfection.

Chronic HBV advances faster to cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease, and liver cancer in people with HIV/HBV coinfection than in people with only HBV infection. But chronic HBV doesnt appear to cause HIV to advance faster in people with HIV/HBV coinfection.

Q : How Important Are Transaminases

An indicator of the liver’s functional status. Transaminases vary and are also influenced by different factors other than hepatitis. They can go up in case of fatigue, after anaesthesia…. The number is rarely identical from one blood test to the next. It is when the viral load is very high that transaminases increase significantly.

    Prevalence Of Herbal Medicine Use

The use of herbal medicine was investigated at three levels: ever used during lifetime, use within the last 12months and use at the time of the study.

Lifetime exposure to herbal medicine was reported in 174/310 patients while herbal medicine use within the last 12months was reported by 143/310 patients.

About 11.9% of the patients were reportedly using herbal medicine at the time of the study.

The patients who reported never used of herbal medicine were asked to give reasons for never having used it. The main reasons given by patients for non-use of herbal medicine included: lack of trust in the effectiveness of herbal medicine generally , lack of knowledge about herbal medicine , a lack of interest in using herbal medicine , bad taste of herbal medicine , easier access to hospitals and lack of trust in the safety of herbal medicines .

Factors Associated With Herbal Medicine Use

The herbal natural remedy for hepatitis B(2020 update)

The following variables were significantly associated with herbal medicine use: education status, duration of illness, current diagnosis, belief that herbal treatment is completely safe and a belief that concurrent use of herbal and conventional treatment is safe as shown in Table .

Table 3 Factors associated with the use of herbal medicine among patients diagnosed with hepatitis

The patients who had attained any form of education were less likely to use herbal medicine compared to those who were not educated however on adjusting for other factors, the education status was not found to be a significant factor in determining herbal medicine use.

Patients who had been diagnosed with hepatitis for a duration greater than 1year between 13 and 24months longer than 24months before the study were also found to be less likely to use herbal therapies compared to those who had been diagnosed with hepatitis for a duration of less than 1year before adjusting for other factors.

There was also a significant difference in the use of herbal medicine according to the type of hepatitis with which patients had been diagnosed. Patients who were diagnosed with hepatitis C and those diagnosed with other forms of hepatitis including alcoholic hepatitis and drug-induced hepatitis were more likely to use herbal therapies compared to those who were diagnosed with hepatitis B before adjusting for other factors.
